RANELAGH RICHMOND HALF MARATHON 14th May 2006 PHIL KILLINGLEY,who prefers cross-country to road racing, had a comfortable victory in the Ranelagh half marathon reports Alastair Aitken. Killingley, who had been on a diet of 50 miles a week for several years, beat the course record set in 2005 of 73:04 with a time of 70:30. He remarked "I was hoping to be inside 70 minutes but I lost about 30 seconds on the loose gravel on the towpath between 8 and 9 miles" Paul Doyle went into a clear second place after 10miles. In fourth place was Roy Reeder, the first M40. He had run 2:31:55 in the London this year. The over 50 prize went to Tim Woods, who ran 49:18 for 10 miles back in 1977. He started to run well as a veteran last year, before having an operation on his foot but, he has managed to train again since December. The first woman and W35 was Angela Howe in 1:20:42. Howe was Middlesex Champion and the first woman in the Finchley 20 where she did 2:06:07. Howe was training for the Edinburgh Marathon on 11th of June.
